Hartsville, SC- Coker College Head Baseball, Dave Schmotzer, announced the signing of five new freshmen for the 2007-2008 season on Wednesday. All five are South Carolina products, mostly from the lower part of the state. According to Coach Schmotzer, “I am very excited to have each of these guys join the Coker family. I look forward to seeing them grow and mature in the next four years.”

 

Adam Windham is a native of Lamar, SC, where he was a three-time letter winner in baseball and also a football letterman. Windham was named Mr. Silver Fox in 2006-2007, is a member of the Beta Club, a Junior Marshall and a National Honor Roll Member. During his senior year had a .350 batting average with a home run and 12 RBIs, while striking out 37 in just 29 innings of work. When asked about attending Coker in the fall Adam said, “I look forward to attending Coker, while fulfilling my dreams of playing college baseball for the Cobras.”

 

Trey Thames joins the Cobras from Georgetown, SC, where he was a three-time baseball letterman at Georgetown High School. Thames was named First Team All-Region VI 3A in 2007, while receiving the Highest Batting Average Award, the Golden Glove Award and Team MVP honors. Trey said, “I am very excited to be attending Coker. I have really enjoyed meeting some of the professors and the coaches. I look forward to my next four years at Coker.”

 

Shawn Thomas, a native of Indian Land, SC, comes to Coker from Indian Land High School where he was a three-time baseball letterman and a two-time football letterman. Thomas is a member of the A-B Honor Roll and while playing football was awarded the Hustle Award, the Most Dedicated Award and the Iron Man Award. His baseball honors include, the Silver Slugger Award, Rookie of the Year Honors and being named Second Team All-Camp at Citadel’s Baseball Camp. Shawn had this to say about attending Coker, “I am pleased to be joining the Coker family and am honored to play on the baseball team.”

 

Hunter Frye of Aynor, SC, and Aynor High School joins the Cobras after being a four-time baseball and football letterman. Frye was a Honor Roll member all four years of high school, a Palmetto Boys State selection and a Coker Scholar. He played second base for the 2006 AA Lower State Champion, District VII Champion and 7AA Region Champion Aynor Blue Jackets. As a senior he had a .345 batting average with a .922 fielding percentage. Frye said, “During my enrollment at Coker, I plan to use my leadership, academic and athletic skills to become an asset to the community and the college.”

 

Maverick Farley will join the Coker Baseball Team from Chester, SC. Maverick was a letter winner in baseball, cross country and wrestling at Chester High School. He was a member of the Beta Club and received the baseball Hustle Award and was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2006. Farley joins fellow Chester High School product and current Coker Cobra, Matt Ammons, who plays second base for Coker.
