Coker’s Adam Hensley Named to All-Time All-CVAC Baseball Team

Thomasville, NC, June 6, 2007 – Conference Carolinas announced the CVAC All-Time baseball team as voted on by league sports information directors. To help commemorate the final year as the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference, the league is naming All-Time Teams in all of the conference sports. The league recently changed its name to Conference Carolinas on June 1, 2007.

With the recent completion of the 2007 baseball season, a thirteen member team was selected as nominated and voted on by league sports information directors. Mount Olive College leads the All-Time Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference baseball team with four members being named to the team, followed by Barton, Belmont Abbey, and Erskine each with two selections, and Coker, Limestone, and Pfeiffer with a selection each. Only those student athletes who competed or have competed in the CVAC for a minimum of two seasons are eligible for inclusion. Active student-athletes who meet the criteria were also eligible.

"Conference Members are excited to honor the best athletes of an era when competition was intense," stated Commissioner Alan Patterson. Certainly the level of competition will only increase in the Conference Carolinas. The single change is that the name better reflects the location of members based in a geographical area that is highly regarded throughout the country."

The All-Time All-CVAC teams are comprised from nominees from current member schools Anderson University, Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Coker College, Converse College, Erskine College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, Pfeiffer University, Queens University of Charlotte, St. Andrews Presbyterian College and former members High Point University and Longwood University.

Baseball All-Time All-CVAC Team

Rene Barreras Belmont Abbey College

Rene Barreras was the 2002 CVAC Player of the Year for the Crusaders. Barreras was a three-time First Team All-CVAC selection and his .448 batting average in his senior season ranked ninth nationally in ’02.

Dennis Blackmon Barton College

Dennis Blackmon was a two-time All-CVAC selection for the Bulldogs including a First-Team selection in 2004. Blackmon posted a .426 batting average and 24 home runs in ’04 to earn First-Team All-Region and Second-Team All-American honors. Blackmon was the 2002 CVAC Tournament MVP for champion Barton.

Brad Church Mount Olive College

Brad Church was the 2003 CVAC Player of the Year for the Trojans. Church batted .429 in his senior season to earn First Team All-CVAC, First-Team All-Region, and First Team All-American accolades in ’03.

Brock Godwin Barton College

Brock Godwin was the 2006 CVAC Baseball Player of the Year and 2006 CVAC Male Athlete of the Year for the Bulldogs. Godwin was 8-0 with 5 saves on the mound while batting .404 in his senior season earning First Team All-American status in 2006. Godwin was a First Team All-CVAC selection at both utility and pitcher in ’06 while making Second Team in ’03.

Adam Hensley Coker College

Adam Hensley was a three-time All-CVAC selection for the Cobras including a First Team honoree in both 2002 and 2003. Hensley set the Coker school record with 285 career strikeouts. Hensley’s 10 wins in ’02 led to All-Region honors in his junior season.

Craig Hurba Mount Olive College

Craig Hurba was a two-time All-CVAC selection for the Trojans including First Team honors in 2003. Hurba batted .408 with 16 home runs in his senior season to earn All-Region accolades. Hurba was drafted in the MLB draft in 2004.

Robbie Knapp Erskine College

Robbie Knapp was a two-time First Team All-CVAC selection for the Flying Fleet. Knapp also was a two-time All-Region honoree. Knapp batted .371 with 17 home runs in 2006 to earn Third Team All-American accolades. Knapp holds Erskine’s school record with 45 career home runs in only three seasons.

Stephen Nordan Mount Olive College

Stephen Nordan was a two-time First Team All-CVAC selection for the Trojans. Nordan batted .395 with 72 RBI in 2007 to earn First Team All-Region and Third Team All-American honors. Mount Olive won three CVAC Tournament titles during Nordan’s era, while Nordan was named Tourney MVP in back-to-back title wins ’06 and ’07.

Kevin Pucetas Limestone College

Kevin Pucetas was a two-time All-CVAC selection for the Saints. Pucetas 3.73 ERA and 117 strikeouts earned him 2006 CVAC Pitcher of the Year honors. Pucetas, who also garnered 2006 All-Region status, was drafted after his senior season in the MLB amateur draft.

Jeff Robbins Pfeiffer University

Jeff Robbins was the 2004 CVAC Player of the Year for the Falcons. Robbins was a First Team All-CVAC selection twice. Robbins also earned First Team All-Region and Third Team All-American honors in his final season.

Casey Smith Erskine College

Casey Smith was the 2005 CVAC Player of the Year for the Flying Fleet. In his final season, Smith batted .448 with 18 home runs earning the Baseball Writers National Player of the Year, CVAC Male Athlete of the Year, and South Atlantic Player of the Year. Smith was drafted in the ninth round of the MLB draft.

Josh Stewart Mount Olive College

Josh Stewart was the 2001 CVAC Player of the Year for the Trojans. Stewart hit 19 home runs in ’01 to also earn First Team All-CVAC and First Team All-Region honors. Stewart was a two-time First Team All-CVAC selection.

Alex Udwari Belmont Abbey College

Alex Udwari was a three-time All-CVAC selection for the Crusaders including a First Team honoree in both 2006 and 2007. Udwari batted .391 in his junior season earned him All-American Honorable Mention accolades while his 16 home runs in his season year helped him to second team All-Region recognition.
