Hartsville, SC- With a stellar 1-0 victory the Coker Cobras evened their series with Francis Marion Patriots on Tuesday afternoon in collegiate baseball.  Brad Boob (3-7) earned the win with the help of Matt Conyers, Jesse Hatchell and Kyle Strickland (2) out of the bull pen and some stellar defense from his fielders. With the win Coker improves to 18-27, while FMU drops to 29-15.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the second inning, when Brian Johanson drove home Seth Weinberg with a single to left field. From then on it was up to the Cobra pitchers and defense. The Patriots were within striking distance late in the eighth inning. With runners on first and third and two outs, Ryan Hewitt hit a looping line drive toward left center, that looked as if it was going to fall, but Coker short stop Brian Nally made an unbelievable over the shoulder grab to save the hit and the game for the Cobras.

Brooks Sinquefield took the loss for the Patriots, going eight innings, allowing one run on seven hits.

For the Cobras, Johanson was 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Steven Evans was 2-for-3 and Ben Davidson was 2-for-4. Nally was 1-for-4 with a double.

Leading the Patriots were Derek Kennamer and Michael Ward, who were each 2-for-5.

Coker returns to the diamond tomorrow as they travel to Benedict College for a 6:00 p.m. game.
