Thomasville, N.C.> Julio Gomez of Coker College (16-24 overall, 9-9 CVAC) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) men's baseball Player of the Week during week number eight of the 2007 season. Junior catcher Julio Gomez from Santa Fe, NM, led the Cobras to a perfect 4-0 record for the week, including a 4-2 win over #3 ranked Georgia College and State University and a three game sweep of CVAC rival St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Gomez had a solo homerun against Georgia College in the second inning to put Coker on the board, then on Saturday against St. Andrews he had a team high four RBI and two doubles in the double-header. On Sunday, his spectacular week culminated with a three-run home run in the top of the ninth with two outs, giving the Cobras the lead and the eventual win. For the week Gomez had a pair of doubles and a pair of homeruns, along with eight RBI, four runs scored and three stolen bases, along with a .333 batting average.

Casey Hodges of Mount Olive College (34-9 overall, 15-3 CVAC) has been selected as the NCAA Division II CVAC men's baseball Pitcher of the Week in the eighth week of the 2007 season. Casey Hodges posted a 2-0 record with 10 scoreless innings pitching in two starts for nationally 15th-ranked Mount Olive last week. Hodges recorded a five-inning complete game shutout in the Trojans' rain-shortened 5-0 win at Anderson to clinch Mount Olive's sixth consecutive CVAC series. Hodges struck out seven and walked none while allowing four hits, all singles. In the Trojans' 2-0 win over Wingate, Hodges allowed only two hits in five scoreless innings, striking out three and walking none.  This is the second time this year he has won this award.
