Hartsville, SC- Coker dropped their second straight game with a loss to the USC-Upstate Spartans 8-0.  Upstate took advantage of four Coker errors and only five Coker hits on their way to victory. The loss drops Coker to 8-19 on the season, while Upstate improves to 16-11.

 

The Cobras and Spartans were scoreless through three innings, until the Spartans tacked on a run in fourth and then added three more runs in the sixth. Upstate capped the win with four runs in the ninth for an 8-0 victory.

 

Kyle Strickland (0-3) took the loss, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts.

 

Thomas Campbell earned the win, throwing eight strong innings, allowing just five hits with four strike outs.

 

Leading the Coker offense, were Ryan Schaeffer, Julio Gomez, Ty Medlin and Trey Lynch. Schaeffer was 2-for-4 on the day, while Gomez, Medlin and Lynch were each 1-for-3.

 

For the Spartans, Bret Hansen and Jimmy Tanner were each 3-for-5, with Hansen collecting two RBIs and Tanner driving in one.

 

The Cobras return to the field on Friday, as they travel to Due West, SC, to face CVAC foe Erskine College at 1:00 p.m.
