GASTONIA — After a couple of losses following a season-opening win, the Asheboro Copperheads went back to business Saturday night and posted an 8-4 Coastal Plain League win over the Gastonia Grizzlies.

Brad Boob earned the win with six solid innings on the mound and C.Z. Ziegler ripped his third home run in the past two nights to help the Copperheads even their record at 2-2.

“It was good to see the offense show up tonight,’’ said coach Patrick Swift. “Brad threw strikes and we made plays defensively.”

Pat Haughie had a three-run homer in the third and Ziegler added his in the same inning as
Asheboro rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

David Cooper had four hits and stole a couple of bases for the Copperheads.

Robert Young and Chris Powell finished the game on the mound.

Boob and fellow Cobra Brian Nally are both playing in the Coastal Plain Summer Collegiate Baseball League. Nally plays for the Petersburg Generals of Petersburg, VA, and is currently batting .154 through five games, with two RBIs, a stolen base and a .964 fielding percentage.
