Hartsville, SC- In the final home game of the 2006 season, the Coker Cobras took a hard loss to the Anderson Trojans, 11-10. Anderson made a come from behind victory on the back of John Mac White’s home run and two triples. With the loss Coker falls to 16-30-1 overall and 3-21 in the CVAC, while Anderson improves to 22-32 overall and 10-12 in the CVAC.

 

Coker looked to have the game in hand as they led 8-4 going into the eighth inning, but then things started to unravel. The Trojans scored three runs off five hits and a Coker error to bring them within one. Then in the ninth, Coker reliever Seth Weinberg failed to get an out while giving up three runs, to give the Trojans the lead.

 

The Cobras did try to mount a come back as Steven Dill hit a RBI double and Steven Evans later plated dill with a ground out to second. Unfortunately for the Cobras, P.J. Scarborough was up to the challenge of shutting down the Cobras, as he ended the game with a strike out.

 

Weinberg (2-4) took the loss for Coker, allowing three runs in the top of the ninth, while Scarborogh earned the win, throwing two solid innings for the Trojans, allowing two runs on just one hit, while striking out three.

 

At the plate for Coker, Evans was 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple and four RBIs, while Ben Davidson was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Nic Fletcher also finished 2-for-5 with a double and Brian Nally and Willie LoVerde each had a triple for the Cobras.

 

Anderson’s White was 3-for-5 with a home run, two triples, four RBIs and three runs scored, while Blair Carson was 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Cody Nye finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

 

Coker completes the 2006 season on Wednesday, as they travel to USC-Upstate for a game at 4:00 p.m. Anderson’s next game is Monday, as they face rival Erskine at 6:00 p.m.
