Hartsville, SC- The Coker Baseball Team dropped their fourth straight game, while Newberry won their second game in the last 22 outings, the Indians defeated the Cobras 12-11 on Tuesday afternoon. With the win Newberry improves to 8-33-1 overall, while Coker falls to 14-24-1.

 

Coker took an early 2-1 lead after the first, but Newberry would not stay down for long, scoring eight runs over the next three innings, compared to Coker’s three runs. The Indians added three insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings for a 12-5 lead.

 

Coker made a tremendous effort at a late inning come back; scoring six runs in the last two innings, but a game ending double play killed any chance for the Cobras.

 

Coker starter Kyle Strickland (1-1) took the loss throwing three innings allowing seven runs on nine hits.

 

Jared Locke (1-4) earned his first win of the season, going six innings for the Indians, allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out three. Will Folk (1) earned the first save of the year for Newberry.

 

For the Cobras, Ben Davidson was 4-for-5 with a double and six RBIs, while Brian Nally was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Nic Fletcher was also 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

 

Newberry was led by Brandon Manasa, who was 2-for-5 with triple and three RBIs, while Matt Webb and Tyler Manasa were each 3-for-4 with an RBI. Joel Keefe was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

 

Coker returns to the field on Wednesday, as they travel to Benedict College at 6:00 p.m. Newberry continues their road tour as they will face USC-Aiken on Thursday.
