Pembroke, NC - UNC Pembroke left fielder Jorge Gonzalez, who was 3-for-4
with two runs batted in and a solo home run, led the Braves to a 10-2 win
over Coker in non-conference college baseball action Saturday afternoon at
Braves Field.  With the victory, UNCP, who has now won six of its last seven
games, improves to 17-10 on the season, while Coker falls to 11-16-1.



Pembroke jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings thanks to a bunt
single in the second by Alex Keith that plated Tripp Lockhart and two runs
in the third on Gonzalez's solo homer and a sac-fly by Adam Hamrick.

The Cobras cut the deficit to two runs, 3-1, as they scratched a run across
in the fourth, but UNCP blew the game open 9-1 as the Braves scored six runs
on six hits and an error in the bottom of the fifth.  Pembroke tacked on
another run in the seventh as Barrett Otto picked up an RBI-single that
scored Cole Franks, who reached on an error and moved to on a Jason Morales'
single.

Coker did manage a run in the ninth thanks to a Ben Davidson, who drove-in
both Cobra runs, RBI-base hit that found its way through the infield.

Hamrick joined Gonzalez with three hits, while Morales and Kevin Dietrich
each tallied two hits apiece.  Otto, Dietrich and Gonzalez all had two runs
batted in on the day.

UNCP's Nolan Johnson (6-1) picked up the win as he hurled seven innings.  He
fanned three with out surrendering a walk and allowed only one unearned run
on four hits.  Coker's Steven Dill (2-3) took the loss after giving up nine
runs, five earned, on 12 hits in 4.2 innings of work.

On deck for UNCP is a make-up game at Claflin on Sunday, March 19, at 1:00
pm, while Coker will host West Virginia State tomorrow.
