Hartsville, SC- Coker scored a least a run in every inning as they blew away Shaw University by a score of 34-6, to cruise to an easy win in a seven inning shortened game. With the win Coker improves to 9-12-1 on the year.

 

Coker starter Seth Weinberg (2-0) earned the win, in five man pitching rotation, with Steven Dill, Blake Miller, Larry Morris and Chris Thomas coming on in relief. The Coker pitching staff held the Bears to only six runs on seven hits in seven innings. Only Miller and Thomas allowed runs, as Miller allowed two runs in the fifth and Thomas allowed four runs in the seventh.

 

Leading Coker’s offensive attack was Ryan Schaeffer, going 4-for-5 and hitting for the cycle, with a single, a double, a triple and a home run. Schaeffer also had nine RBIs and three runs scored. Steve Evans was 5-for-6 with two RBIs and four runs scored, while Brian Johanson was 3-for-4 with double, three RBIs and five runs scored. Ben Davidson finished 4-for-6 with a triple, four RBIs and four runs scored and Brooks Urquhart was 1-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored.

 

Three of Coker’s freshman picked up their first collegiate hits and two of them were triples. Nate Donovan and Bryant Smith each hit a triple and Ty Medlin recorded his first hit as well. Donovan finished 1-for-1 with an RBI and Smith was 1-for-1 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Medlin was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

 

Coker returns home on Saturday, as they host St. Andrews University in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference match-up. The Cobras are hoping to break their 0-8 CVAC record with a solid performance this weekend. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at noon on Saturday.
