HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker used a nine-run third inning to propel its way to a 15-6 victory over visiting Newberry Tuesday afternoon in collegiate baseball.  The Cobras improve to 19-15 overall while NC drops to 13-22.

Newberry struck in the first inning for a 1-0 lead with a pair of doubles off starter Brad Boob.  Coker answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs, started by leadoff singles by Nic Fletcher and Eric Losten.

The Indians battled back to tie the game in the top of the third with the aid of two Cobras errors, but CC answered in a big way in their at-bat.  Coker batted around in the inning with four batters stepping to the plate twice. 

The Cobras added one in the fourth and two more in the seventh, while NC scored two in the fourth and one in the ninth to complete the scoring.

Fletcher garnered three hits, three runs scored and a RBI for CC, while Losten went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Senior Conrad Deese drove in three and scored a run, while classmate Ben Kershner went 2-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Brandon Gardner drove in three runs for the Indians and Anthony Dillenger finished with two hits, one RBI and a run scored.  Joe McIsaac took the loss for Newberry, pitching two and a third innings with six hits, four walks and eight runs allowed.

Coker used seven pitchers in the game with Nick Green earning the win after two innings of no-hit relief with two strikeouts.  Boob started the game and gave up two hits and one earned run in two innings.

Coker travels to Voorhees on Friday, April 1, for a 3:00 PM contest.
