HARTSVILLE, SC –   Coker upset the nationally ranked West Virginia State Yellow Jackets 9-5 on Sunday afternoon in collegiate baseball.  CC improves to 13-15 overall while West Virginia State loses their 5th game.

Coker led 4-0 after the first two innings with five hits and the benefit of three Yellow Jacket errors.  CC pushed ahead 9-2 through five innings but WVSU’s Jonathan McDowell hit his second homer of the day in the sixth inning to make it 9-4 and inch the visitors closer to Coker.

The Cobras would not score again but their defense held up to hold off 20th ranked West Virginia State. Coker barely out-hit West Virginia State 13-12 but gained an edge by committing no errors to West Virginia State’s four.

Freshman Brad Boob pitched a complete game for the win.  Conrad Deese went 3-5 with two RBI while Nick Fletcher and Eric Losten both had a pair of hits and two runs scored.

Coker travels to face St. Augustine’s on Tuesday, March 22.
