HARTSVILLE, SC — Coker moved to 11-12 on the year with a convincing 16-5 victory over Shaw University Thursday afternoon in collegiate baseball.

Shaw (5-7) went ahead 2-0 in the second inning with the help of a pair of Coker errors and a balk.  CC got one run back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI groundout by Willie Loverde which plated Brian Nally.

The Cobras took control of the game in the third inning with three runs.  Conrad Deese scored two with a RBI single and, after stealing third, scored on a sacrifice fly from Justin Sims.

The floodgates opened in the fifth inning as Coker scored three runs, added five in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to make it 15-3.  Shaw started the eighth with two walks and a single and scored two runs with a one-out single by Travis Salley, who’d already blasted a solo homer in the seventh.  Pitcher Phil Lemoine got out of the inning by inducing a double-play ball from Avery Bryant.

In the bottom of the eighth Brian Johanson singled and came around to score on a RBI groundout by Eric Losten to complete the scoring.  Seth Weinberg earned the win for Coker, pitching three innings of one hit ball.  Travis Wilson took the loss for Shaw.

Deese finished going 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and Johanson went a perfect 2-2 with two RBI and a run scored.  Losten scored four runs and Sims drove in three, while Ben Kershner picked up two hits, drove in a run and scored once.

Coker returns to action on Saturday, March 12, with a three-game series at Barton College.  Saturday’s double-header starts at 12:00 PM.
