DUE WEST, SC---Erskine took both games of a double header Saturday afternoon over Coker to win the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference baseball series.

In game one on Friday, Coker scored two runs in the top of the ninth and held the Fleet scoreless in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-5 victory. Senior Brent Mahaffey led Erskine at the plate, going 2-4 with a home run and two RBI’s, while Robbie Knapp and Adam Twitty each had one hit and one RBI. Russell Reid took the loss, allowing three runs in two innings of relief.

Coker came out in game two taking the lead early, and were leading 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when junior Casey Smith hit a one out two run home run to give the Fleet a 4-3 lead. Erskine would add an insurance run on an RBI single by Mahaffey. Jake Williams picked up the save, pitching a scoreless seventh inning to secure the win for Michael Maus who pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief. Smith and Mahaffey each went 2-3 with a home run and RBI for the Fleet.

Erskine kept the momentum in game three, jumping out to a 5-0 lead and cruising to an 11-2 victory in the final game of the series. The Fleet had five players with two hits, led by Ben Blumenthal who was 2-3 with two home runs and three RBI’s. Smith and Antonio Sabatini also added home runs in the victory. Michael Moore picked up the win, allowing two runs in six innings and striking out four.

The Fleet improve to 12-4 overall and 3-3 in the CVAC, while the Cobras now stand at 8-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
