Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. Wrestling

    • NCAA Midwest Super Regional
  • Travis Laxton placed second in the 125-pound weight class of the NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional last week. By placing second, Laxton punched his ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championship in St. Louis, Mo. March 14-15.

Women’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:

  • Last week’s games:
    • Lenoir-Rhyne (L) – 68-42
    • Tusculum (W) – 82-71
  • The Coker women’s basketball season came to an end last week with an 82-71 victory over Tusculum in their final game of the season. The Cobras lose six seniors to graduation; Priscilla Fenty, Tanesha Stenson, Heidrun Kristmundsdottir, Hailey Yohn, Kelley Godbout and Lakeria Crowder.

Men’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (A) – #2 Carson-Newman – SAC Tournament Quarterfinals
  • Last week’s games:
    • Lenoir-Rhyne (W) – 73-67
    • Tusculum (W) – 84-75
  • The Cobra men closed out the regular season portion of their schedule and clinched a spot in the SAC Men’s Basketball Tournament with a pair of wins last week over Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum. Senior Errick Bethel captured the SAC regular season scoring title by averaging 19.9 points per game for the season. This week the Cobras will travel to face the No. 2 seed Carson-Newman Eagles in the quarterfinals of the SAC Tournament. Coker swept the Eagles during the regular season and upset them in the quarterfinals of last season’s SAC Tournament.

Men’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Holy Names – Coker Invitational
    • Saturday at 5:30 p.m. (H) – Sacred Heart– Coker Invitational
    • Sunday at 11:00 a.m. (H) – Marymount – Coker Invitational
    • Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (H) – Emmanuel – Coker Invitational
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Emmanuel (L) – 3-2
  • The Cobras will play host to four visiting schools from across the country this week in the Coker Invitational Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Men’s and Women’s Track & Field

  • This week’s meets:
    • Friday at Palmetto Classic in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
  • Last week’s meets:
    • None
  • This week the men’s and women’s track & field teams will travel to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. to compete in the Palmetto Classic.

Baseball

  • This week’s games:
    • Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – St. Andrews
    • Friday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Anderson
    • Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Anderson (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • None
  • After getting a week off due to winter weather and rain, the Cobras will return to the field this week for a non-conference game on Tuesday at St. Andrews and for a home SAC series on Friday and Saturday against Anderson.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Wright State
    • Saturday at 9:00 a.m. (A) – Davis & Elkins @ Hilton Head, S.C.
  • Last week’s matches:
    • None
  • The Coker tennis teams were unable to play last week due to weather, but they will return to action this week with a pair of matches. The first on Wednesday at home against Wright State and the second on Saturday in Hilton Head, S.C. against Davis & Elkins.

Softball

  • This week’s games:
    • Monday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – West Virginia Tech (DH)
    • Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – North Greenville (DH)
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – UNC Pembroke (DH)
    • Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – St. Andrews (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Limestone – 4-1 (W), 5-2 (L)
  • The Coker softball team went 1-1 last week. This week they will play host to West Virginia Tech on Monday and North Greenville on Wednesday. They will then hit the road for the weekend traveling to UNC Pembroke on Saturday and to St. Andrews on Sunday.    

Women’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Thursday at 4:00 p.m. (H) – Chowan
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Lincoln Memorial
  • Last week’s games:
    • Queens (L) – 17-4
  • This week the women will take on Chowan on Thursday and Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. Both games will be played at home.

Men’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Lincoln Memorial
  • Last week’s games:
    • Pfeiffer (L) – 19-6
  • The Coker men’s lacrosse team will play host to Lincoln Memorial in a SAC matchup on Saturday.  

Men’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:

  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • Pirate Invitational – 13 of 15
  • The Coker men's golf team picked up another top 15 finish at the Pirate Invitational last week. Will Bundy was the Cobras’ top golfer. He placed in the top 20.

Women’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • None
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • Converse Spring Invitational – 13 of 17
  • The Coker College women's golf team had their first tournament of the spring cut short due to snow, but they placed in the top 15. Taylor Demby led the way with a ninth place finish.
