Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at golfers; Meg Mills and Will Bundy Click here for spotlights.

Wrestling

  • This week’s matches:
    • None
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Campbell (W) – 44-4
    • Davidson (L) – 22-18
  • Last week the Cobras went 1-1 against Division I opponents Campbell and Davidson. The Cobras defeated Campbell with ease, 44-4, but fell just shy of defeating Davidson, losing 22-18. The wrestlers will have a week off before heading to UNC Pembroke for the NCAA Division II Super Region Two tournament Feb. 28-March 1.   

Women’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (A) – Wingate
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Anderson
  • Last week’s games:
    • Catawba (L) – 67-66
    • Brevard (W) – 69-68
  • Last week the Coker women went 1-1 with a win over Brevard. This week the women will play two SAC road games, traveling to Wingate on Wednesday and to Anderson on Saturday. With four regular season games remaining the Cobras are tied for ninth place in the SAC standings. The top eight teams advance to the SAC Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Men’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. (A) – Wingate
    • Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (A) – Anderson
  • Last week’s games:
    • Catawba (L) – 65-61
    • Brevard (W) – 79-65
  • Last week the Cobra men also went 1-1, picking up a SAC win over Brevard. This week the men will travel to Wingate and to Anderson. Currently, the men are tied for sixth place in the SAC standings with four regular season games left. The top eight teams advance to the SAC Men’s Basketball Tournament.  

Men’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (A) – New Jersey Institute of Technology
    • Friday at 7:00 p.m. (A) – Princeton
    • Saturday at 7:00 (A) – Sacred Heart
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Barton (L) – 3-0
  • The Cobras will begin a five-match road trip this week by traveling north to take on the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Princeton and Sacred Heart.

Men’s and Women’s Track & Field

  • This week’s meets:
    • Saturday at JDL Fast Track Field House in Winston-Salem, N.C.
  • Last week’s meets:
    • None
  • This week the Coker track & field teams will head to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete at the JDL Fast Track Field House.

Baseball

  • This week’s games:
    • Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – St. Andrews
    • Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Seton Hill (DH)
    • Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Seton Hill
  • Last week’s games:
    • St. Augustine’s (W) – 2-1
    • Wingate – 12-5 (L), 13-5 (L), 20-4 (L)
  • The Cobra baseball team earned a 2-1 victory over St. Augustine’s last week. This week they will continue their nine-game home stand as they host St. Andrews and Seton Hill.   

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Newberry
    • Saturday at 12:30 p.m. (A) – GRU Augusta
  • Last week’s matches:
    • USC Aiken – 6-3 (L) – women, 8-1 (L) – men
  • The Coker tennis teams will play host to SAC foe Newberry this week and then travel to Georgia Regents Augusta on Saturday for a non-conference match.

Softball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – St. Andrews (DH)
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Columbia (DH)
    • Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Johnson C. Smith (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Barton – 3-0 (L), 12-4 (L) – 6 inn.
  • The Coker softball team will play host to St. Andrews on Wednesday. Then they will travel to Columbia College on Saturday and to Johnson C. Smith on Sunday.  

Women’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Newberry
  • Last week’s games:
    • Lees-McRae (W) – 18-7
  • The Coker women’s lacrosse team picked up an impressive 18-7 win over Lees-McRae last week. Freshman Claudia Jenkins finished the game with a single-game record six goals and two assists for eight points, which ties a single-game record. This week the Cobras will host Newberry in their SAC opener on Saturday.

Men’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (A) - Queens
    • Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Mars Hill
  • Last week’s games:
    • Saint Leo (L) – 14-9
  • The Coker men’s lacrosse team will open up SAC play this week by traveling to Queens on Wednesday and then returning home to face Mars Hill on Saturday.

Men’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Monday-Tuesday at Newberry Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C.
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • None
  • The Coker men's golf team will start their 2015 spring season this week at the Newberry College Invitational. The two-day tournament hosted by the Newberry Wolves will be played at the historic Ocean Course on Kiawah Island.
