Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. Trick or Treat with the Cobras and meet the South Carolina Ghostbusters

The Coker College athletic department is inviting everyone to come “Trick or Treat with the Cobras” and meet the South Carolina Ghostbusters at the volleyball match on Friday, Oct. 31 at the Harris E. and Louise H. DeLoach Center from 6-7 p.m. Everyone dressed in costume will receive free admission to the match. In addition to Trick or Treating, there will be a costume contest during the volleyball match. Trick or Treat with the Cobras


Women’s Soccer

  • This week’s matches:
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Brevard
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Newberry (L) – 1-0
    • Tusculum (L) – 2-0
  • The Cobra women will play their final regular season match of the season on Saturday at Brevard. The women are currently in ninth place in the SAC standings. The top eight teams advance to the SAC soccer tournament that begins Nov. 4.  

Men’s Soccer

  • This week’s matches:
    • Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (A) – Brevard
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Newberry (T) – 1-1 -2OT
    • Tusculum (L) – 1-0
  • This week the Cobras will travel to Brevard for their final regular season match of the season on Saturday. Currently, the Cobra men are in eighth place in the SAC standings. The top eight teams advance to the SAC soccer tournament that begins Nov. 4. 

Women’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (A) – Pfeiffer
    • Friday at 7:00 p.m. (H) – Carson-Newman – Senior Night/ Halloween Costume Contest/Hartsville Chamber of Commerce Night
    • Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Lincoln Memorial
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Queens (L) – 3-1
    • Newberry (L) – 3-1
    • Anderson (L) – 3-1
  • This week the Cobras will play their final two home matches of the season against Carson-Newman (Friday) and Lincoln Memorial (Saturday). Friday night the Cobras will honor their two seniors, Samantha Celek and Celia Duggan, in a special Halloween match featuring trick or treating, a costume contest and a visit from the South Carolina Ghostbusters.

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country

  • Last week’s meet:
    • Francis Marion Cross Country Invitational – women – 1 of 4, men 2 of 4
  • The Coker College women's cross country team took home the championship trophy at the Francis Marion Invitational last week, while the men's cross country team brought home the second place trophy. Shauntel Smullen set a new Coker 5k record with a time of 18:55 and a second place finish to lead the women, while Noah Cook, James Gregory and Nick Mascardo who finished in second, third and fourth place to lead the men.

Men’s Golf

    • Monday – Tuesday at Matt Dyas Invitational in Carrolton, Ga.
  • Last week’s tournament:
    • None
  • The Coker College men's golf team is back on the road for their fall season finale at the Matt Dyas Invitational hosted by West Georgia. The Cobras brought home a fourth place finish last time they played in the two-day, 54-hole event in 2012.

Wrestling

  • This week’s matches:
    • Saturday at 8:00 a.m. (A) - Citadel Open
  • Last week’s matches:

  • The Coker College wrestling team will begin its 2014-15 season by traveling to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the Citadel Open on Saturday.

Women’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (A) – University of South Carolina
  • Last week’s games:
    • None
  • The Coker women will begin their 2014-15 season by traveling to Columbia, S.C. to take on SEC preseason favorite, the University of South Carolina on Sunday in an exhibition game at USC’s Colonial Life Arena. Admission to the game is free and the game will be broadcast live online and on the SEC Network.
