Men’s Tennis Signs Two for 2012-13

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College men’s tennis coach Tom Simpson announced today that Kaspars Pavasars (Minesing, Ontario) and Tommy Sizeland (Hamilton, New Zealand) have signed national letters of intent to play for the Cobras.

Pavasars is from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, where he participated in tennis and downhill ski racing. He was a doubles champion in tennis in 2009 and 2011.

“Kaspars will bring a big serve and volley style to our lineup that was absent last year,” Simpson said. “He has great size, a strong work ethic and is disciplined both on the court and off.”

Kaspars is the son of Ilze and Ivar Pavasars.

Sizeland joins Coker after a two-sport career in tennis and cross country at Hillcrest High School. In cross country, Sizeland was the junior boys champion in 2007 and 2008, the intermediate boys champion in 2010 and the senior boys champion in 2011. In tennis, he was the junior boys champion in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and the senior boys champion in 2010 and 2011.

“Tommy is a strong competitor and a player that grinds out points,” said Simpson. “He doesn’t give in to his opponents and makes them earn everything, which will bring added toughness to our program.”

Tommy is the son of Peter and Wilma Sizeland.
