Five Earn Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Honors

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Five Coker University student-athletes were named to the 2023 Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team, the College Sports Communicators announced today. The men's golf trio of Fred Tindale, Caleb Tidd and Derek McGlaughlin earned the accolade, while Corey Gallivan of wrestling and Will Habel of men's lacrosse also earned honors. 

Tindale, a four-year member of the Coker men's golf team from Nottingham, England, finished his undergraduate academic career with a 3.874 cumulative grade-point average. Majoring in physical education with an exercise science concentration, he made the President's or Dean's List in each of his eight semesters in Hartsville. He has been named to the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll on four occasions, earned the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award three times and has been named a GCAA Division II All-American Scholar three times. Additionally, he was named the winner of the South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Elite 23 Award, which goes to the highest academic achieving student-athlete and each of the 23 conference championships.

Tidd, a three year member of the Coker men's golf team from Greenwood, Ind., has a 3.783 cumulative grade-point average during his six semesters in Hartsville. The physical education major has earned President's or Dean's List honors in four of his six academic terms in Hartsville. He has been named to the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll three times, earned the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award twice and has been named a GCAA Division II All-American Scholar on two occasions.

McGlaughlin, a two-year member of the Coker men's golf team, has a 3.70 cumulative grade-point average during his four semesters in Hartsville. The Elizabethtown, Pa. native has been named to both the President's and Dean's List once. He has earned South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll honors twice and has been a recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.

Gallivan, a two-year member of the Coker wrestling team, has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average during his four semesters as a Cobra. The sophomore criminology major from Cutler Bay, Fla., has been named to the President's List each semester, while also being a member of the honors program. He has earned South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll honors twice and has been a recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award. He was also named a 2023 National Wrestling Coaches Association Division II Scholar All-American.

Habel, a two-year member of the Coker men's lacrosse team, has a 3.851 cumulative grade-point average during his three semesters in Hartsville. The sophomore from Cornelius, N.C. has earned President's or Dean's List honors in each of his three academic terms, while majoring in Physical Education. He has earned South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll honors twice and has been a recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.

About Academic All-District/American presented by CSC

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. 

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic AllAmerica® honorees will be announced June 22. The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages.
