Cobra Spotlight- Stephen Scrivens, Men's Soccer

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at Stephen Scrivens, a member of the men's soccer team.

Name: Stephen Scrivens

Sport: Men’s soccer

Position: Midfielder, defender, forward, and sixth-string keeper. Wherever you need me, I’ll be there.

Hometown: Tampa, FL

Year: Senior

Major: Physical education and sport studies with a concentration in sports management

Why did you choose Coker? Soccer was a big part of it, but after visiting, Coker just felt like the right place for me to be.

What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? Winning the Conference Carolinas’ regular season and tournament titles my sophomore year.

What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? Each Bandfest has produced great memories that I will never forget.

Which athletic team would you play on at Coker other than your own? Basketball. I would be the teams’ practice All-American.

Favorite class: Currently, racquet sports with Dr. Parker

Favorite professor: John Jewell

Plans after graduation: I would like to continue playing soccer, but if that doesn’t work out, I would come back to Coker and pursue my master’s.

Favorite movie: Independence Day, and Semi-Pro

Favorite type of music: Hip-hop

Favorite food: Spaghetti and meatballs

Favorite sports team: Arsenal FC in London, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (unfortunately).

Favorite color: Blue

Favorite TV show: The Big Bang Theory

Most prized possession: All of my cleats.

What is something people may not know about you? I’m a huge fan of a cappella music thanks to Pitch Perfect.

Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it? Nearly everybody calls me Scrivs. I believe it came from coaches calling me that over the years, and eventually people just began introducing me as Scrivs. I don’t even think most people know my first name.
