The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at Adri Watford, a member of the women's tennis team.
Name: Adri Watford
Sport: Women’s tennis
Hometown: Turbeville, S.C.
Year: Senior
Major: Physical education and sport studies with a concentration in exercise science
Why did you choose Coker? I originally chose Coker because Hartsville wasn’t too far from home and the school offered the prerequisites need for me to become a physical therapist. Also, I came to play volleyball; so who knew that I would be playing tennis now.
What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? My first tennis match is my best athletic memory. I was brand new and completely lost. My opponent had to keep score the entire match and tell me when to switch. She could’ve cheated for all I knew but I was having fun and that’s all that matters, right?
What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? Best memory is the ski trip to Sugar Mountain Resort with Dr. Parker’s outdoor education class. That day was awesome, but scary at the same time. It took me about two hours to get down the ski slope and I fell about 25 times, including almost falling off the side of Sugar Mountain.
Which athletic team would you play on at Coker other than your own? Softball, mainly because growing up softball was my main sport and where my heart was.
