Coker's Cain Captures All-Conference Honors at Cross Country Championships
The Coker men placed 10th and the women placed 11th at the 2011 Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships on Friday afternoon.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coker freshman Brandon Cain (Graham, N.C.) was named All-Conference after finishing 14th overall with a time of 26:08 at the 2011 Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships on Friday afternoon.
Cain, along with the rest of the men's team finished 10th overall in the 8k event, while the Coker women's team finished 11th overall in the 5k race.
"Although we might not have had the team results we were hoping for, we did have some outstanding individual times," said head coach Kevin Kelley. "Five of our men ran lifetime bests and six of our women ran personal bests."
Following Cain's All-Conference performance were classmates Dylan Bates (Scarborough, Ontario) and Derek Nix (Toms River, N.J.) with times of 26:53 and 28:40 respectively. Freshman Josh Peterson (Boca Raton, Fla.) came in at 29:11, followed by junior Thad Sulek (Hilton Head, S.C.) at 29:45. Juniors Britain Tomlinson (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Quinn Wenger (Sumter, S.C.) rounded out the Cobra runners with times of 31:17 and 31:52 respectively.
In the women's race, freshmen led the way as well with Stephanie Shaw (Aiken, S.C.) coming in at 20:39 and Kirsten Sanders (Union, S.C.) coming in at 22:13. Senior Angela Williams (Johnston, S.C.) ran a 22:36 and senior Caitlyn Driscoll (Grand Island, N.Y.) finished at 22:51. Senior Robyn Risher (Elloree, S.C.) and junior Cristina Vital (Dallas, Texas) came in at 24:10 and 24:27 respectively, while senior Aliese Gregory (Aiken, S.C.) posted a time of 24:38. Sophomore Devan Williams (Seneca, S.C.) rounded out the Cobra women's runners with a time of 31:51.
The Cobra cross country teams will now prepare for the NCAA Southeast Region meet on Nov. 5. The meet will be held in Charlotte, N.C. at McAlpine Park.
