NEW ORLEANS – On Monday, February 11, 2008, four Coker College Cross Country Runners received national recognition for their exceptional athletic and academic performance. Coker Women’s Cross Country runners, Dana Daves (York, SC), Heidi Rienstra (Brockville, Ontario) and Shannon Townley (Anniston, AL) were named to the 2007 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Women’s All-Academic Cross Country Team, while Coker senior Cross Country runner, Michael Koshis (Greenville, SC) was named to the 2007 USTFCCCA Division II Men’s All-Academic Cross Country Team.

Daves, Rienstra and Townley were three of the 202 female student-athletes from 99 Division II programs named to the All-Academic team. The Conference Carolinas had 10 female student-athletes represented on the team.

Koshis was the only Coker runner to be named to the team of 127 male student-athletes representing 67 Division II institutions are on this year’s All-Academic team.  He was also one of only five Conference Carolinas runners named to the team.

To qualify for the individual All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.  The student-athletes must also finish in the top 30 percent of individual participants at their respective regional cross country championships.
