VOLLEYBALL SECURES UPSET OVER CARSON-NEWMAN
Hartsville, SC - With the power of the Coker fandom behind them, Cobra volleyball pulled off Coach Dragan's best win in her tenure as they downed the Eagles of Carson-Newman in four sets (25-20, 25-19, 15-25, 25-20).
The first set was tightly contested up until the very end. With the Eagles within one at 19-18, the Cobras turned on the jets and cruised to a 25-20 victory. Much of the same could be said in the second set, as they carried that momentum to a resounding 25-19 victory without ever trailing.
The third was one to forget but had some bright spots. The Cobras had the chance to pull within one but had a call go toward the Eagles that could've gone either way and instead of 13-12, it was 14-11. From there, Carson-Newman turned on the jets and closed it out.
A thriller of a fourth set ensued, with back-to-back play up until the end. However, it was the Cobras pulling away with the resounding victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Both Cayla Gilmore (14 kills on a .444 percentage) and Taylor Hills (game-high 16 kills) were on fire on the offensive end. Laila Hixon had a great performance on both sides of the ball with a double-double of 17 assists and 11 digs. Other Cobras in double figures included Maddy Roberts (24 assists), MJ Hurd (11 digs), Meadow Morse (17 digs), and Alyssa Carey (career-high 20 digs).
The Cobras will swing back into action on Tuesday, hosting the Bulldogs of Wingate in conference action. First serve for that one will be at 7:00 PM ET.
