VOLLEYBALL DROPS TOUGH FIVE-SETTER AGAINST BOBCATS
Hartsville, SC - The Cobras had yet another heartbreaking match-up, falling in five sets (22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 9-15) to the Bobcats of Georgia College and State University.
The first four sets were filled with enthralling volleyball. Each one was close and had drama in their own way. The most dramatic set was the third in which the Cobras trailed 18-21 but won seven of the last eight points to take the 25-22 victory and head up two sets to one.
The fourth set saw the Bobcats do the opposite to the Cobras, as the Cobras led 14-11 but dropped the set to send it to a fifth. After falling down big in the fifth, a comeback was too little too late and they dropped this one 15-9 and 3-2 in the match score.
The clear leader in kills tonight was freshman Cayla Gilmore with 19 as she was the only Cobra in double figures in that category. Another freshman Maddy Roberts had a whopping 27 assists and 11 digs for the Cobras' lone double-double on the evening. They were supported by sophomore Laila Hixon who met the double-digit mark in assists with 16, along with yet another freshman in Anisten Myers who led the team in digs with 12.
The Cobras will finish this elongated homestand on Saturday with senior day against Mars Hill. First serve for that one is set for 2:00 PM ET but be inside the DeLoach fifteen minutes before for our senior day recognition ceremony!
