VOLLEYBALL LOSES FIVE-SET HEARTBREAKER TO NEWBERRY
Hartsville, SC - The Cobras were yet again on the unfortunate end of a fifth-set heartbreaker, falling 2-3 (22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 17-25, 6-15) to the Wolves of Newberry.
An entertaining match-up to say the least, the Cobras dropped the opener in a close 25-22 set. Then, they really turned on the jets and had a phenomenal showing in sets two and three, taking 25-19 and 25-18 victories, respectively.
The fourth set started out extremely tightly contested. Coker found themsleves up 11-10 at one point, but that's where it stopped. Throughout the remainder of the fourth set and the entirety of the fifth set, the Wolves found their way and the Cobras lost theirs. They dropped the remaining sets 17-25 and 6-15, respectively, to fall to Newberry at home.
Four Cobras led the way in statistics, with each of them having double-doubles. Taylor Hills recorded 16 kills and 11 digs, Laila Hixon recorded a whopping 32 assists along with 19 digs, Cayla Gilmore had 10 kills and 15 digs, and Hazar Kayan put up her best performance on the year with 13 kills and 17 digs. The other Coker athlete in double figures in a given statistical category was Meadow Morse with 21 digs.
