COBRAS FALL IN FOUR TO UVA-WISE
Wise, VA - The Cobras headed up to Virginia to take on the Cavaliers of UVA-Wise in a South Atlantic Conference match-up this evening, falling in four sets (17-25, 22-25, 25-18, 18-25).
It was a runaway set for the Cavaliers in the first and almost looked to be in the second as well. UVA-Wise led 8-1 at the beginning of the second set but the Cobras ended up bringing it within two at 23-21. Unfortunately, the comeback fell short and the Cavaliers pulled it out 25-22.
Down two sets to none, the Cobras needed a spark to get back in this one, and a spark is exactly what they got. In a set that rarely saw them trail, they got one back and won 25-18 to make this a 2-1 game. This translated into the beginning of the fourth set, with the Cobras leading 13-10 after the first part of play. However, the Cobras were unable to see this through and fell 25-18 to lose 3-1.
The Cobras were led on the offensive side of the ball by Cayla Gilmore, having 13 kills to lead the team. As always, the Cobras were led in assists by both Maddy Roberts and Laila Hixon with 21 and 16, respectively. Three Coker athletes were in double figures in assists including Meadow Morse (26), Alyssa Carey (11), and Hixon with 17 to complete the double-double.
They will head back on the road Tuesday to play Mars Hill in SAC play, with a first-serve time of 6:00 PM ET.
