COBRAS SECURE HUGE FIVE-SET CONFERENCE WIN ON THE ROAD AGAINST SAINTS
Gaffney, SC - That's one notch in the conference win column as the Cobras get their first South Atlantic Conference win on the season against the Saints of Limestone University.
The Saints were selected to finish 8th in the SAC preseason poll with 68 total votes, while the Cobras were picked to finish five spots below at 13th with just 12 votes to their name.
What started as a struggle in the first set became a dominant 25-17 opening set for Coker. Falling down 2-5 to start, they scored four points in a row to take a 6-5 lead. Leading 9-8, the Cobras rattled off eight points in a row to make it 17-8, and the rest was history.
After falling in a close 22-25 second set, Coker won a 25-20 third set which saw them never trail. The Cobras won the first point, Limestone tied it at 1-1, and the Saints trailed the rest of the set.
The fourth was a close one, with Limestone leading 14-13 a little over halfway through, but the Saints ended up outscoring the Cobras 11-4 to close it out and send it to a fifth. In the fifth set, however, Coker bounced back in a dominant way. The Cobras won the first four points, led 10-2, and held on to win 15-9.
