COBRAS TAKE BEARS TO FOUR SETS ON THE ROAD
Hickory, NC - The Cobras battled one of the top teams in the South Atlantic Conference in the form of the Bears from Lenoir-Rhyne tonight, falling in four sets (16-25, 25-19, 17-25, 13-25).
The Bears, ranked third in the SAC preseason polls, are 5-0 after defeating the Cobras in Hickory. They have been on a tear, and have only dropped three sets in their first five matches, one of which being tonight against Coker.
The second set was the highlight of the night, defeating the Bears 25-19 in convincing fashion. Down 0-3 in the set, the Cobras began to slowly chip away to get themselves back level. They tied it at 6-6 and took their first lead at the next point to make it 7-6. From there, they slowly built up the lead and won four of their last five points to put the finishing touches on a well-played set.
Although eventually falling 3-1, the Cobras showed promise throughout this one. A young team, this Coker volleyball squad has a bright future which was evident in tonight's play.
Highlights of the match-up include a team-high 12 kills from Hazar Kayan along with two in double figures in assists (Maddy Roberts with 14 and Laila Hixon with 13). Meadow Morse also recorded a match-high 24 digs in the outing, followed by two others in double figures (Alyssa Carey with 16 and Hixon with 11 to record a double-double).
The Cobras will hit the road again on Friday, traveling to Gaffney to face off against the Saints from Limestone. First serve for that match is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET.
