
COBRAS DOWN CRUSADERS 3-1 IN FINAL MATCH OF COKER COBRA CLASSIC
Hartsville, SC - The Cobras held on to a two-set lead to take the 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21) victory over Belmont Abbey in the final game of the Coker Cobra Classic.
The first two sets were as tightly contested as you can be, with the Cobras taking both to head up 2-0. Points were traded back and forth with the Cobras summoning the willpower to take care of business.
The third set was close right up until the end, with the Crusaders pulling away to take the 25-19 win and force a fourth set. In the fourth, the Cobras were up 15-9 when the Crusaders came surging back to tie it at 17-17. Then, Coker pulled away with great play down the stretch to take the 25-21 victory to wrap the match up.
The defensive play from McKay Kaspar fueled the pull-away by the Cobras in the fourth and helped seal the victory. Taylor Hills was on fire all night long with 23 kills and a .404 kill percentage for the evening. Laila Hixon recorded 34 assists and Alyssa Carey had her first collegiate double-double with 16 digs and 10 kills.
The Cobras will head on a road for the next two matches, with the next matcup being with South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne. That match will take place this Tuesday, September 10th, and will have a first serve time of 7:00 PM ET.
