Du Bray Records 1,000th Career Kill in Season Finale at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. - Coker University senior Taylor du Bray recorded her 1,000th career kill on Saturday (Nov. 16), as the volleyball team ended the 2019 season with a 3-0 loss at Mars Hill. 

Mars Hill took the opening set 25-14 for a 1-0 lead in the match. The Lions jumped out to a 7-1 lead, before later extending their lead further. Mars Hill would take the opening set from there. 

Coker battled in the second set, but fell 25-23. The two teams battled to a 7-7 tie, before Coker went ahead 12-10. Mars Hill responded with a run that left them up 21-17, before Coker would battle back to tie the match at 21-21. Mars Hill would win four of the final six points to take the set. 

Coker fell in the third set 25-13 as Mars Hill would complete the sweep. The two teams went back and forth early in the set, before Mars Hill would hold the Cobras at a distance for several points on their way to winning the set and the match. 

Du Bray led the Cobras with 11 kills on the afternoon, with her final career kill being of great significance. The senior from Highlands Ranch, Colo. became just the fourth player in program history to record 1,000 career kills, and the first player since Megan Haupt (1,387 kills, 2004-08) to accomplish the feat. Chelsey Blume posted 10 kills in the match, while Coker also received contributions from Emily Everton (six), Sierra Harvey (four), Alexis Kopicki (three), Rami Mullen 
(one) and Carson Fuller (one). Olivia Cerick posted both of Coker's service aces in the match. Gabrielle Milo and Everton shared the team lead in digs on the day, while Mullen also added six. Du Bray added five digs in the match, while Cerick contributed four. Ashley Carson posted two digs, while Kopicki, Blume, Fuller and Maddie Gardner had one dig each. Carson's 18 assists paced the Cobras, while Mullen also had 10. Coker also received contributions from Milo (three), Lauren Grooms (one), Everton (one) and Gardner (one).

 This concludes the 2019 Coker University volleyball season.
