MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Christiane Maul recorded nine kills and four blocks, and Alicia Mote added nine kills as Mount Olive picked up its first win of the year with a 25-16, 25-22, 25-17 victory over Coker in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Tuesday at Kornegay Arena. The match was Mount Olive’s conference opener and also the Trojans’ first home contest after playing their first eight matches on the road.

Mount Olive (1-8 overall, 1-0 Conference Carolinas) erased an early two-point deficit in the first set as Racey Bartley served three consecutive aces during a six-point service run to put the Trojans ahead to stay at 11-6. Coker (1-8, 0-2) pulled within a point on Molly Bookhart’s ace. But Kailey Preece and Joanie Werling served two aces apiece for Mount Olive as the Trojans scored seven of the final eight points to take the first set.

The Trojans built a 14-8 lead in the second set after kills by Maul and Mote. Coker pulled within two points late in the set after a kill by April Griggs, but Mote’s kill help Mount Olive build the lead to 24-20. The Cobras fought off a pair of set points on a Trojan service error and an ace by Lisa Ross before Caitlin Skislak’s kill down the line gave Mount Olive a two-set lead.

Mount Olive broke away from a two-point lead in the third set as kills by Bartley and Maul sparked an 8-2 run and gave the Trojans an 18-10 advantage. Coker cut the lead in half with four unanswered points, but Mount Olive responded with a 5-0 run, highlighted by kills by Maul, Skislak and Mote. Mote recorded a kill on match point to seal the win.

Werling, who missed the previous two matches with flu-like symptoms, finished with a match-high 33 assists for Mount Olive. Skislak tallied seven kills and 11 digs, while Bartley added seven kills and five aces.

Coker was led by Cynallyhia Indriago with five kills, while Griggs added four kills and two aces.

Mount Olive travels to Gaffney, S.C., this weekend to compete in the Limestone College Southeast Crossover, the Trojans’ final regular season tournament. Mount Olive takes on Lenoir-Rhyne and Augusta State Friday at 5 and 7 p.m., then faces Tusculum and USC Aiken Saturday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Coker plays a non-conference match at Columbia College (S.C.) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
