Hartsville, SC- The Coker College Volleyball Team upset regionally ranked (#10) and Conference Carolinas first place team Lees-McRae College, 3-1 in collegiate volleyball. The win improves to 12-13 overall, and 9-4 in Conference Carolinas play, while Lees-McRae falls to 15-11 overall, and 9-3 overall.

 

Things got interesting early, as Coker jumped out to an early 8-1 lead in game one, only to eventually fall behind 28-21. The Cobras tied the game at 29 and then went back and forth with the Bobcats, before winning 35-33. In game two, Lees-McRae took home their one win of the match, defeating the Cobras 30-25. In game three, Coker took home a 30-20 win and then sealed the match victory with a 30-10 win in game four.

 

Senior Megan Haupt (Summerville, SC) led the Cobras with a double-double, compiling 20 kills and 17 digs in the match, while Margaret Madison (Savannah, GA) had 16 kills and three blocks. Kelsey Carlson (Osweego, IL) had 21 digs and six aces, including serving out the final 11 points of game four. Kristin Teets (Columbia, SC) had 15 kills, while Natalie Schembra (Hilton Head, SC) had 12 kills and 15 digs. Megan Gordon (Chicago, IL) had 31 assists and Courtney Butrym (Columbia, SC) had 19 assists and three aces.

 

For Lees-McRae, Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina) and Whitney Kiser (Connelly springs, NC) had seven kills each, while Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) had 31 assists, 12 digs and three aces.

 

Coker returns to the court on Tuesday, as they host St. Andrews at 7:00 p.m. at the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.
