Hartsville, SC- In the most heated volleyball game of the year, Coker and Pfeiffer battled to a 26-24 Coker victory in game five, giving the Cobras a 3-2 victory over the Falcons on Tuesday night in collegiate volleyball. The win extends Coker’s winning streak to three games improving their record to 10-12 overall, and 7-4 in Conference Carolinas play, while Pfeiffer falls to 12-8 overall, and 6-4 in the conference.

The fifth game of the match was only supposed to be played to 15 points, but either team seemed to want to do that, as there were 12 lead changes and numerous game points. “I could not have asked for anything more out of my girls tonight,” said Coker Head Coach Chuck Mullen. “By believing in themselves, they came though when they had too. This is one of the best matches I have ever been involved in; Pfeiffer played some outstanding volleyball tonight. It was a great match for both teams and the fans to be a part of.”

Leading the Cobras, with a pair of double-doubles was Megan Haupt (Summerville, SC) with 25 kills and 18 digs and Natalie Schembra (Hilton Head, SC) with 13 kills and 29 digs, while Margaret Madison (Savannah, GA) had 22 kills and four aces. Kelsey Carlson (Osweego, IL) set a new Coker single match digs record with 39 digs and Courtney Butrym (Columbia, SC) 53 assists.

For Pfeiffer, Petra Ljubicic (Asheboro, NC) had 20 kills and three aces, while Lauren Spiotta (Batavia, NY) had 15 kills and three blocks. Lauren Elmore (Chapel Hill, NC) and Brittany Dickens (Wake Forest, NC) each had 11 kills, while Morgan Liebert (Huntersville, NC) had 52 assists.

Coker returns to the court on Friday, October 5, for their Homecoming Game against Queens University. The Cobras will also be having their 2nd Annual “Pretty in Pink” match where the ladies will wear pink jerseys in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, with all proceeds from the gate going to benefit the Darlington County Relay for Life.
