Hartsville, SC- The Coker Volleyball Team snapped the streak of five-game matches and losses with a 3-0 victory over the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey on Saturday night. The win improves Coker to 7-11 overall, and 4-3 in the conference, while the Abbey drops to 2-14 overall, and 1-5 in the conference.

The Cobras came out strong posting a quick 30-17 win in game one, followed by an equally quick 30-19 win in game two. Game three proved to be a bit more challenging as the score went back and forth throughout the game, with neither team building more than a one or two point lead. It looked as if Coker was again going to be forced to play a match with more than three games, but in the end the Cobras came out on top with a 30-27 victory.

Leading the Cobras was Megan Haupt (Summerville, SC) with a double-double, posting 12 kills and 14 digs, while Margaret Madison (Savannah, GA) had 15 kills. Natalie Schembra (Hilton Head, SC) netted eight kills and eight digs in the match, while Megan Gordon (Chicago, IL) had 40 assists and three aces. Kelsey Carlson (Osweego, IL) ended the match with 23 digs and Kristin Teets (Columbia, SC) had four aces.

For the Abbey, Ashleigh Oxtoby (Rochester, IL) was the kill leader with nine kills, followed by Emily Frohnapfel’s (Stafford, VA) six kills. Allison Smith (Clifton, VA) had 25 assists and Monica Halligan (Yuma, AZ) had 15 digs.

Coker returns to the floor on Tuesday, as they travel to Mount Olive, NC, to face the Trojans of Mount Olive College at 6:30 p.m.
