Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer volleyball team defeated Coker 3-1 (21-30,30-25,30-26,30-24) in Conference Carolinas action Tuesday night. With the win Pfeiffer improves to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Coker is now 4-9 and 1-1.

 

Game one started out evenly as the teams went back and forth until Coker went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. A Brittany Dickens kill brought Pfeiffer within three at 14-11 but that was as close as the Falcons could get as the Cobras slowly pulled away for a 30-21 win in game one.

 

The Falcons came back to win game two. Coker went out to an early 6-1 lead but the Falcons stormed back and cut the lead to 8-7 on a Petra Ljubicic kill. A 5-0 run gave the Falcons a 17-14 advantage but Coker came back and cut the Pfeiffer lead to 21-20. Victoria Parrish stepped up and won the next two points with a kill and a service ace to propel the Falcons to a 30-25 win in game two.

 

The Falcons came out on fire in game three. Behind the serving of Nicole Cummings Pfeiffer flew to an 8-1 advantage. Coker hung around but when Lauren Spiotta spiked a winner the Falcons led 19-11. The Cobras fought back and eventually cut the Pfeiffer lead to 24-23 but the Falcons responded with a 4-0 run to lead 28-23. The Falcons held on and won game three 30-26.

 

Behind the strong hitting of Petra Ljubicic the Falcons grabbed a 9-3 lead in game four. Coker came back and cut the lead to 16-12. Te Falcons then went on a 7-0 run led by three aces from Brittany Dickens to take the lead up to 23-12. The Cobras fought hard but the Falcons played well down the stretch and won game four 30-24 and took the match 3 games to 1.

 

Pfeiffer was led by Lauren Spiotta who had 13 kills.  Brittany Dickens added 11 kills.  Dickens also led the Falcons with 7 aces.  Morgan Liebert had 44 assists.  Coker was led by Megan Haupt with 12 kills.  Margaret Madison had 11 kills.  Courtney Butrym had 35 assists for the Cobras.

 

Pfeiffer is on the road this weekend. They travel to Mount Olive for a 6:30 game on Friday followed by a 12:00 pm game Saturday at Barton. Coker hosts a pair of matches this weekend starting with Converse on Friday and then Anderson on Saturday.
