Charleston, SC- How did you spend your summer vacation? Go to the beach? Work your summer job? Travel the country? Well, for three Coker volleyball players and head coach Chuck Mullen they spent a weekend of their summer working at the AVP Charleston Cup. Coker Seniors Natalie Schembra/Hilton Head, SC, Megan Haupt/Summerville, SC, and sophomore Samantha Cliborne/Goose Creek, SC, along with Coach Mullen were volunteer workers at the Charleston Cup.

“It was awesome to see the top beach volleyball players in the world up close and personal,” said Coach Mullen. They ladies and Coach Mullen got the chance to see Olympic Gold Medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh win the women’s side of the cup, while working as the ball crew in the championship game. They also go to work the court during the men’s final where they witnessed Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger take home the championship.

After each match they were able to get pictures taken with the players and get autographs signed, giving them something to take home and always remind them of the experience. “It was a fun weekend, it was great weather and the ladies and I really enjoyed it.”

The Coker Volleyball Team will begin their 2007 season on August 24 as they travel to Augusta State for a two day tournament. For more information on the Coker Volleyball Team or Coker Athletics check out www.cokercobras.com.
