Hartsville, SC- In the Coker Volleyball Team’s second match in as many nights, it took another five games to decide a winner, just as it did on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, for the Cobras they were not able to come out with the victory this time around, as they lost to St. Andrews Presbyterian College 3-2. With the lose Coker falls to 13-11 overall, and 11-5 in the CVAC, while St. Andrews improves to 16-15 overall, and 8-7 in the CVAC.

 

Coker looked to be on the track to victory early in the match as they defeated the Knights 30-27 in game one and 31-29 in game two, but then the Cobra victory train was derailed but the Knights. St. Andrews used Coker’s errors and hard play to win the next two games with scores of 30-28 and 30-28, sending the match to a decisive fifth game.

 

In the fifth game, it was a back and forth battle before the game was tied at 14 points each. Then after a few Coker errors, it was the Knights riding off to victory.

 

Leading Coker was Margaret Madison with 24 kills and nine blocks, while Megan Haupt netted 18 kills, 16 digs and three aces. Tara Nelson had 53 assists in the match and Kelsey Carlson had 26 digs.

 

St. Andrews was led by Lindsey Stansbury and her 32 kills and 24 digs. Jesi Bewley and Tara Lemieux had 13 and ten kills respectively, while Bewley also had five blocks and Lemieux had five aces. Kim Harper gave the Knights 58 assists in the match.

 

Coker’s next match is on Saturday, October 21, as they travel to Lees-McRae at 3:00 p.m. St. Andrews next match is also at Lees-McRae, but on Friday, October 20, at 7:00 p.m.
