LAURINBURG, N.C.—Junior Margaret Madison (Savannah, Ga.) lifted the Coker College volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-24, 13-30, 30-27, 30-26) Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College with 10 kills, four blocks, and two services aces on Thursday in Harris Court.

 

The Lady Cobras evened their overall record to 8-8 and increased their CVAC mark to 7-2; while the Lady Knights fell to 10-9 and 4-2.

 

Coker broke away from a 13-13 first game with an 11-4 run to take a 24-17 lead. The Lady Cobras would hold on for a 30-24 win to take the early one-game advantage. SAPC answered back with a dominating second. After 11 straight points on junior Tara Lemieux (Panama City, Fla.) serves, the Lady Knights held a commanding 14-2 lead and coasted home, 30-13, to tie the match.

 

Coker regained control of the match in the third by taking a slim led early and held on during a back-and-forth set all the way to the 30-27 win. The Lady Cobras finished the match after overcoming a 21-16 deficit in the fourth with a 14-5 run to end the evening at 30-26.

 

Senior Lauren Larsen (St. Croix, USVI) added seven kills for Coker while freshman Bragg (Cassatt, S.C.) followed with six kills and a team-high seven blocks. Senior Tara Nelson (Rochester Hills, Mich.) provided 29 assists and two aces. Sophomore Kelsey Carlson (Oswego, Ill.) and junior Megan Haupt (Summerville, S.C.) chipped in with 32 and 14 digs, respectively.

 

Freshman Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) led the Knights attack with 14 kills and a .481 hitting percentage. Junior Lindsey Stansbury (Morgan City, La.) spiked 13 kills and served up five aces while Lemieux ripped 10. Senior Kim Harper (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a match-high 44 assists while junior Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) made 22 digs. Harper scooped up 17 digs; senior Lauren McManus (Raleigh, N.C.) had 15 digs; and Stansbury added 14 digs.

 

St. Andrews will play a non-conference double dip on Saturday in Wingate, N.C. The Knights battle host Wingate University at 1:00 p.m. and then Fayetteville State University at 3:00 p.m. The Lady Cobras will visit current CVAC undefeated Limestone College (Gaffney, S.C.) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
