Wilson, NC- The Coker Volleyball Team is off to a great start in their pursuit of a Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference title, as they defeated the Barton Bulldogs 3-0 in their first game of CVAC play on Tuesday night. The Cobras are now back to even with a 2-2 overall record and 1-0 in the CVAC.

 

Coker downed the Bulldogs with ease in three straight games; 30-20, 30-27, and 30-18. The only obstacle the Cobras had to over come came in the second game of the match when the Barton led 22-15, but after 8 unanswered points, the Cobras were back on top and on their way to victory.

 

Leading the way for Coker was Margaret Madison with 13 kills, eight blocks and three aces, while Megan Haupt had 16 kills. Tara Nelson had 34 assists, four blocks, and two aces. Kimberly Shaw and Kelsey Carlson led the Cobra defense with 10 and eight digs respectively.

 

Coker will travel to Valdosta State for the Valdosta State Volleyball Tournament on September 1-2, with their first match at 8 a.m. Saturday against Augusta State.
