Catawba, NC- In the final day of play at the Catawba Volleyball Tournament the Coker Volleyball Team was able to finally chalk up a win, but not before they suffered another loss. The Cobras lost the first match of the day to Wingate 3-0, but were able to bounce back and defeat UNC-Pembroke 3-0.

 

In the first match versus Wingate, Coker was swept up by the Bulldogs by scores of 30-17, 31-29 and 30-23. Leading the Cobras attack was Junior Margaret Madison who had eight kills, while freshman Allie Bragg and junior Megan Haupt each had seven kills. Senior setter Tara Nelson had 30 assists and 12 digs, while junior Natalie Schembra and sophomore Kelsey Carlson each had 11 and nine digs respectively.

 

Match number two saw the Cobras earn their first win of the season as they defeated the Braves of UNC-Pembroke with scores of 30-24, 30-24 and 30-26. Haupt was the offensive force behind the Cobras victory, with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Bragg and Madison had nine and eight kills respectively. Nelson had 35 assists, 10 digs and two aces, with Schembra and Carlson each had 15 and 13 digs for the Cobras.

 

Coker (1-2) will begin their quest for the CVAC championship as they face their first conference opponent at Barton College on Tuesday, August 29 at 6:30 p.m.
