Florence, SC- California (PA) struck early and turned out to be more than the Cobras could handle in their opening match of the season at the Francis Marion Invitational. The Vulcans won the match 30-18, 30-19 and 33-31.

 

Senior hitter Andrea Manuel/Lyman, SC lead the way for the Cobras with 11 kills and 8 digs, while sophomore Margaret Madison/Savannah, GA added 7 kills, 3 blocks and 7 digs. Junior Tara Nelson/ Rochester Hills, MI helped out with 24 assists and 3 blocks and sophomore Meagan Haupt/ Summerville, SC added 9 kills, while Junior Ashley Schaum/Irmo, SC finished with 12 digs for the Cobras.

 

In match two of Friday’s doubleheader Coker became unlucky for the second time falling to North Carolina Central at the Francis Marion Invitational. Coker won the first game of the match 30-28, but fell short in the next three losing 30-21, 30-20 and 30-25.

 

Margaret Madison/ Savannah, GA and Megan Haupt/ Summerville, SC lead the way for the Cobras with 12 kills each and Madison also added 8 digs. Courtney Butrym/ Irmo, SC contributed 39 assists and 10 digs, while Lauren Larsen/St. Croix, USVI had 9 kills and Ashley Schaum/ Irmo, SC and Andrea Manuel/ Lyman, SC each had 14 and 18 digs respectively.

 

The Cobras return to action Saturday August 27 at 9 a.m. versus West Georgia and at 1 p.m. against Lenoir- Rhyne at the Francis Marion Invitational.
