
JERNIGAN TAKES 1ST AT USC
COLUMBIA, SC: The Cobras competed at the USC Invite this weekend with 1 athlete finding the Gold.
TOP PERFORMERS:
Dakota Jernigan: High Jump (1.61m) 1st place
Jeffery Stiles: 200 meters (21.94) 7th place
Lyniah Kitt: Triple Jump ( 11.26m) 6th place
HOW IT HAPPENED:
TRACK EVENTS:
The day started with the 60m prelims. Kamari Hudson crossed the line first for the Cobras as he finished in 7 seconds. Unfortunately, it was not enough to qualify for the next round as he took 13th place. Moving on to the 60m hurdles, Xavier Ratliff qualified for the men as he ran a time of 8.63 seconds finishing in 8th place in the prelims. On the women's side of this event, Patience Lisbon ran her PR with a final time of 9.41 seconds the finish in 26th for the prelims heats. The Junior, Jeffery Stiles, finished 7th in the 200m finals as he ran a final time of 21.94s. In the women's 200m Patience Lisbon found herself with a top ten finish as she ran a final time of 26.54 seconds giving her a 10th place finish. Moving on to the 400m events, Donovan Jones took 10th place with a final time of 49.94 seconds which was a season-best. Alejandra Alonso took 18th place narrowly beating out her teammate Diamond Bailey in the women's 400m.
FIELD EVENTS:
The Cobras found most of their success today in the Field. Starting with the High Jump events, Michael Wilson led the Cobras with a 12th-place finish and a final height of 1.8 meters. On the Women's side, Dakota Jernigan finished in 1st with a personal best and school record jump of 1.61 meters. Moving onto the Long Jump Tyriq Guase competed for the men and finished with a 6.04-meter jump and a 16th-place finish. Massassi Maxwell-Smith led the Cobras on the LJ as she finished in 17th place with a 5.09m final jump. The Triple Jump saw both Coker athletes finding top ten finishes as Tyriq Gause took 10th place with a 12.89m jump and Lyniah Kitt took 6th place with an 11.26m jump. Kitt is now the 90th-best Division II triple jump athlete in the country.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Cobras will travel to Lenior-Rhyne next as they take on the SAC Indoor T&F Championships and their last opportunity to make the National meet. This will take place on March 1st and 2nd.
