How It Happened
Not nearly as dramatic as the men's match that ran parallel to this one, the women took care of business in a dominant fashion. Bellegy and Banning partnered for the 6-1 win at first doubles, while Hernandez-Sanchez teamed up with Tamara Macias to get the 6-2 win at the second doubles slot to secure the doubles point.
Only needing three courts, the Cobras went out and took five for good measure. Each singles winner for the Cobras not only won but did so in straight sets. A slight bit of drama came in the first set on court four where Sierra headed to a set tiebreak, but the tiebreak itself was taken cleanly at 7-3 and the drama was put out just as fast as it arose. Coker comes away with a 6-1 win and remains undefeated this far in the season!
Notables
The first and second singles spots have been extremely reliable for the Cobras to start the season off. One is much more expected than the other, as senior and Pre-Season All-SAC Second Team selection Jade Bellegy has yet to have a close encounter in any set this season. Over at the second spot, Ilona Hernandez-Sanchez has had a great start to her college tennis career with two straight-set victories to start off the season.
Up Next
The Cobras will take the week to prepare for their next opponent in the form of cross-town rival Francis Marion. That match will be in Florence and has a first serve time of 1:00 PM ET.
