Banning Battles Back To Clinch 4-3 Victory For Women's Tennis

Hartsville, SC - Women's Tennis clinched an exhilarating 4-3 win this afternoon as they beat the Pioneers of Tusculum.

All the action started off with the Cobras clinching the doubles point after wins on courts one and three. After losing on court two, the third doubles pairing of Salomé Sierra and Caroline Myers took the 6-1 win to even it up. Then, the first doubles pairing of Jade Bellegy and Emerson Banning clawed their way to a clinching match, winning 7-5 in a set that required extra games to decide it.

The Cobras started off hot in singles, with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win on court one from Bellegy and a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win on court five from Myers. On court three, however, things were looking grim. Banning had fallen 3-6 in her first set and was down 1-5 in the second. However, in true Cobra fashion, she cracked her knuckles and dug deep in the face of adversity. All of the sudden, she had won six games in a row and won the second set 7-5. All even at one set apiece, she dug even further and took the 6-4 victory in set three to provide the clinching point for the Cobras.

The Cobras are back in action on Wednesday, taking the trip to Limestone for a 1:00 PM first serve.
