Cobras Blank Clarion Tuesday Night

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Coker University women's tennis team moved its scheduled match against Clarion from Wednesday (Mar. 5), to late Tuesday (Mar. 4) to avoid weather, and defeated the Golden Eagles by a score of 7-0.

Coker swept doubles play for one point before completing the sweep in singles play to earn the shutout.

Charlotte Clarke and Gabriela Del Val earned a 6-3 win over Alexis Strouse and Katie Benson at No. 1 doubles, before Tamie Chew and Gracie Waldron blanked Kali Aughenbaugh and Hannah Schettler 6-0 at No. 2. Kelli Stinchcomb and Zoe Heed then shut out Haley Germanowski and Sarah Kirmeyer 6-0 at No. 3 doubles for the sweep.

Chew would shut out Strouse 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, before Clarke would sweep Benson in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Del Val posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Aughenbaugh at No. 3, before Heed defeated Schettler 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Waldron defeated Kirmeyer 8-0 at No. 5, before Stinchcomb shut out Savannah Buttery 8-0 at No. 6 singles.

 The Cobras (5-2) return home to Hartsville to open South Atlantic Conference play against Tusculum on Saturday (Mar. 7). First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Coker Tennis Courts.
