HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women’s tennis team’s five match winning streak came to an end with a 7-2 loss to nationally ranked No. 37 West Virginia State. The loss drops the Cobras to 8-3 on the year.

Even though the Cobras lost as a team, junior Alyssa Blanchard (Columbia, S.C.) continued her hot play at No. 1 singles as she won her ninth consecutive singles match in straight sets winning 6-3, 6-4. Picking up the second win of the match for Coker was Kendall Sigmon (Hilton Head, S.C.) at No. 4 singles. Sigmon battled back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to earn two straight wins in the second and third sets with scores of 6-3 and 10-5.

Coker’s next match will be on Saturday against Mount Olive College. Due to the threat of late afternoon rain, both the women’s and men’s matches have moved their start times up to 11:00 a.m. in order to help avoid the rain.
