The singles proved to be tough going for the Cobras and many of the matches went deep into a third set. Cassidy Spencer was first to win a match for the lady Cobras in singles as she beat Rachel Wilkes 6-1, 6-3. Jill Smith and Andrea Santos played well in singles but both came up short losing in three long sets. The No. 6 singles match was forfeited by Converse and it leveled the match at 4-4 with Rachel Lemar still on court. Lemar won the first set 7-5 and was attacking the net effectively. The second set however went to Ive Jardim from Converse 6-2. The match went down to a final deciding set where it went to 5-5, when Lemar stepped up her game to take the set 7-5 and give the Cobras a 5-4 victory. Lemar said, “It was a tough day today, but I attacked the net well to close out the match.”
This takes the Cobras to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the CVAC. The Cobras next match is away at Wingate on Thursday at 2.30 p.m.
