
Clark Powers Cobras Past Lions
Freshman Maia Clark continues phenomenal first season with another goal to help lift Coker over Mars Hill.
Mars Hill, NC. - Maia Clark put home her team high 14th goal of the season to lift Coker over Mars Hill Friday night. Rhyan Parkin was excellent in goal, saving all five shot attempts to help pitch a shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Coker had the first chance of the night in the ninth minute, when Mac Gies hit a ball wide of the goal. Maia Clark had a chance less than three minutes later, but it was Mars Hill's goalie, Camryn Miller turning Clark away.
Miller was great in goal for the Lions turning away multiple chances by the Cobras early on to keep the game at a stalemate.
In the 21st minute, Rhyan Parkin saved a flurry of shots in a row to keep the Lions off the board. She was phenomenal in goal on the night turning away every chance the Lions had.
The 28th minute proved to be the difference. Maia Clark placed her team high, as well as SAC conference high 14th goal into the back of the net to give Coker a 1-0 lead.
At the half, Coker registered five shots on goal, with the one Clark goal to help hold a 1-0 lead.
In the second it was the defense that stood strong for the Cobras.
A back line of Noor Njeim, Jocelyn Markiewicz, Silke Nielsen, and Rhyan Parkin suffocated the Lions offense all night, holding them to just five shots on goal.
The second half, the Cobras defense only allowed one shot on goal, as they kept the shutout in tact over the course of the final 45 minutes.
Coker moves to 9-4-2, 5-4-1 on the year, and currently hold 5th place in the SAC with one final regular season game.
NOTEABLES:
Maia Clark's 14 goals is best in the conference by four, while her 30 total points is eight points higher than the next player.
