Cobras fall to Francis Marion in Home Opener on Saturday


HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker University women's soccer team fell to Francis Marion in non-conference action on Saturday (Sept. 14) by a score of 3-0. 

The Cobras lead a steady defense for the first 35 minutes of play until Dayle McEwen scored on a penalty kick for the Patriots scoring the only goal of the first half. 

Francis Marion scored the final goal of the game at the 86-minute mark making the final score 3-0. 

"I felt like tonight's performance was another step in the right direction," said head coach Garrett Linquist. " We did some things well but unfortunately we were punished for our mistakes tonight, but  we'll continue to push forward and hopefully get a result on Wednesday." 

Ava Kieser, Madelyn Becker, and Neely Reagin all three had one shot a piece for the Cobras while freshman goalkeeper Sarah Swaim had 10 saves on the day. 

Coker will be back in action on Wednesday (Sep. 18) when the Cobras host Wingate for a South Atlantic Conference contest, with kickoff slated for 5:00 p.m.
